Hello, and welcome! I'm Dr. Sunnie Allen, owner and therapist of Sun Light Wellness, LLC.
As both a therapist and educator, I believe mental health care should be compassionate, accessible, and tailored to the unique story of each person. I founded Sun Light Wellness with the vision of providing an inclusive, affirming practice where clients across Indiana and Ohio can access high-quality virtual therapy that honors the whole person and not just a diagnosis or set of symptoms.
My clinical work focuses on anxiety disorders, trauma, substance use and recovery, co-occurring disorders, perinatal mental health, women’s issues, and life's many transitions. I take a holistic, trauma-informed approach that recognizes the connection between our thoughts, emotions, physical experiences, relationships, culture, and environment. Drawing from evidence-based practices such as mindfulness, somatic approaches, Brainspotting, acceptance and commitment therapy, insight-oriented therapy, and person-centered therapy, I work collaboratively with clients to create treatment that reflects their strengths, values, and goals.
One of the things I value most is creating a therapeutic relationship built on authenticity, trust, and cultural humility. I believe every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and respected, regardless of their background or where they are in their healing journey. Sun Light Wellness reflects my commitment to lifelong learning, compassionate care, and creating a space where healing feels possible. It is truly an honor to walk alongside my clients as they build resilience, discover their strengths, and move toward lives that feel more balanced, meaningful, and authentic.

Individual counseling provides a safe and confidential space for clients to explore personal challenges, develop self-awareness, and work towards personal growth. Through a supportive, one-on-one therapeutic relationship, clients can address issues such as anxiety, trauma, and life transitions, and gain coping skills to improve overall well-being.

Clinical supervision offers guidance and support to mental health professionals, fostering their professional development and ensuring high-quality client care. It provides a collaborative environment where supervisees can reflect on their clinical work, enhance their skills, and receive feedback. Supervision also helps ensure ethical practice, develop clinical competence, and support the personal and professional growth of therapists.

Sun Light Wellness proudly offers Community Reinforcement and Family Training (CRAFT) groups in Richmond, Indiana. This evidence-based program helps family members and loved ones of individuals struggling with substance use develop healthier communication, set effective boundaries, and support recovery while prioritizing their own well-being.
My Approach
As a mental health therapist, my approach is holistic, person-centered, and deeply rooted in humanistic and feminist principles. I believe in meeting each client where they are, honoring their individual experiences, strengths, and identities. My goal is to create a therapeutic space that is inclusive, supportive, and empowering.
I integrate a variety of evidence-based approaches to tailor therapy to the unique needs of each client. These include Brainspotting, a powerful tool for processing trauma and accessing the brain's natural capacity for healing; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which helps clients cultivate psychological flexibility while living in alignment with their values; and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify and reframe unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior. I also incorporate somatic and polyvagal-informed approaches that recognize the connection between the mind and body, helping clients better understand their nervous system, build a sense of safety, and develop greater capacity for regulation. Throughout the therapeutic process, I integrate mindfulness-based practices to foster present-moment awareness, self-compassion, and lasting emotional well-being..
By combining these approaches, I strive to help clients build resilience, develop healthier coping strategies, and foster deeper connections with themselves and others. I see therapy as a collaborative journey, grounded in empathy and a deep respect for the client’s autonomy, voice, and lived experience.
